“This is a great day for Utah patients and their families,” said DJ Schanz, director of the Utah Patients Coalition. “We are very grateful to the Utah Legislature and Governor for their support in making this happen.”
Under the new law, patients with the following conditions will be able to qualify for medical cannabis: cancer, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, epilepsy, cachexia, chronic pain, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The Utah Department of Health will now begin the process of drafting rules and regulations for the new program. Licensing for dispensaries and cultivation facilities will also begin in the coming months.
